While travelling through South America by car we crossed the border of Ecuador and Colombia in Rumichaca. There we saw so many Venezuelan refugees in such great misery without the help they needed, that we decided to stay. We started this NGO, and have been working together succesfully with local and international organizations to give them the help they need. Help fund a cochlear implant surgery for 18 month old baby

Raising a funding campaign as I came across the story of Marc Alexander, 18 month baby boy born in Haiti and diagnosed bilaterally deaf (both ears). Long story short, Haiti does not have the proper medical infrastructure and the government support to help this little boy get a cochlear implant surgery that would give him the ability to hear and speak. The longer he waits to get the implant, the more irreversible speech and development delay will occur. This would cost USD 30,000 including a trip abroad to get the surgery done (I myself have done research for my daughter and no kidding, it really cost that much). I spoke to his mother who didn't know what to do and who to turn to, and I felt the need to help them. As a French national and a Hong Kong resident , and as a mother of a 6 months deaf baby myself, my family is fortunate enough to have access to the best-in-class health support, excellent medical care and infrastructure ...and this is all (or almost) FREE!! We tend to forget how lucky we are. We are Kamaïa and Darlin Jeanty, parents of 18 months old Marc-Alexandre. We live Haiti, one of the most under-developed country in the world.We suspected the deafness of our son when he was 2 months and a half, as he was not reacting to sound. Due to lack of medical resources and infrastructure in Haiti, we were unable to obtain a diagnosis right away. When Marc-Alexandre turned 12 months old, we had been recommended to have him checked out in Republic Dominican. Without a second of hesitation, we took out all of our savings and bought a flight for the 3 of us to go meet an ENT specialist there. The results were devastating: Marc-Alexandre was diagnosed bilaterally deaf (both ears). We were not sure what to do or where to turn. We do not know if he would ever say, "I love you Mommy and Daddy." We have prayed for a happy, productive life for Marc-Alexander, and we want him to go to school and someday graduate from university to pursue a career and a life that he chooses.The ENT was adamant that our son needed cochlear implants; Implanting Marc will give him access to sound which will provide him with the only chance of age-appropriate speech and language development. This will provide him the opportunity to a better education and independent employment as an adult in the future. If not implanted, it may lead to permanent changes in the auditory cortex in the brain which may make it impossible to benefit from a cochlear implant or any form of hearing restoration surgery in the future. The cochlear implant bypasses the damaged portions of the ear and directly stimulates the auditory nerve. The signals are generated by the implant and are sent passed the auditory nerve to the brain where the signals are recognised as sounds. However, the cochlear implants will cost USD$30,000 as we do not have insurance and there is no government social subsidy or help of any kind. We are raising money to pay for medical expenses including surgery, cochlear implant device, and a trip abroad for the surgery.Marc is growing up and as his parents; we know we have to do something. The only future for our son is to hear with cochlear implants. Just like everyone else, we want to give him the best possible future there is.Life is so precious and this innocent boy who deserves the right to live normally. Marco & Thijs - Bike4Kika

All, This summer (4th August) myself and my son Thijs will be biking ~1000km from Oberrieden, Switzerland to Schagen, the Netherlands. We will be following the river Rhein all the way to the Netherlands. We aim to complete the bike tour in 10 days. We are doing this to raise money for child cancer research. Reason we are doing this is that a little over a year Thijs’s grandad passed away from cancer. I also had cancer and was lucky enough to survive, as such we want to do what we can to help other people that have cancer. Every little bit helps. All the money donated will go 100% to KIKA, which has been set up in 2002 to fund innovative research for Child Cancer. Treatments have significantly improved but still 1 in 4 children, diagnosed with cancer dies. The charity’s aim is to increase the survival rate of children suffering from cancer from 75% to 95% by 2025. They aim to do this by funding scientific research, improving treatments (less pain, higher cure rate and improved quality of life), concentrating expertise and treatment for children to accelerate experience. Support for Aelfin Michel

Aelfin Michel - Critical Condition - Hua Hin, ThailandSadly, on December 31st, Aelfin tragically crashed on a motorbike causing him to suffer severe head and face trauma. Aelfin is currently in ICU under 24 hours medical care and constant support. When Aelfin arrived in emergency he required immediate surgery to remove bleeding on the brain and had part of his skull removed, which will need to be replaced with titanium. His jaw and teeth were severely smashed which will require surgery, as well as other serious facial and head injuries. Unfortunately this is a very critical situation. Due to the severity of his head injuries he has had many operations to date and requires many more, plus 24 hours support and months (if not years) of therapy. The latter is not yet known as we are currently taking it day by day, knowing that each day is a miracle. Aelfin is a fighter and at every set back he is fighting to stay here with us. For those that know him will know his determination and stubbornness. This trait is shining through in his fight for his life. This gives us hope. Holding onto this hope and knowing that Aelfin will keep on fighting, there is a long and very expensive battle ahead of us. He requires many more surgeries, and unfortunately at this stage, we are unsure of the extent of damage and rehabilitation required. We urgently ask all of you to help support Aelfin and his mother, Emma, with the extensive ongoing medical costs and medical care that Aelfin needs now and for the coming months. Community space for refugees, Ljubljana, Slovenia Ambasada Rog is a community space run for the last two years by refugees, activists, journalists, cultural workers, lawyers, unemployed, parents and everyone who believes in solidarity and the power of a community. We understand Ambasada Rog as a space of mutual support and we all work on a volunteer basis. Our work includes numerous activities: daily, we cook and provide a free meal for 20-25 people, we provide social and legal support to asylum seekers; we organize campaigns and protests, as well as educational workshops and events like exhibitions, concerts, dance classes and excursions. Since we wish to remain politically independent, we work outside the institutional framework and rely mostly on our solidarity network and our supporters. They are the ones who most effectively participate in our efforts. We invite you to become part of this network and support our work with your contribution. Any donation is welcome and it will be fully used for our activities. Most of the expenses go for cooking free meals and offering social support to migrants and asylum seekers, who are left without basic means. Our activities take place in the Autonomous Factory Rog, a former bicycle factory which has become a complex community with over fifteen active collectives and spaces. Since 2016 the space is under threat of eviction by the municipality which also filed a lawsuit against eight activists. The Spiral Farm HouseThe Spiral Farm House is a biodynamic organic farm created in 2012 by Sudarshan Chaudhary in Saptari (Eastern Nepal, 8 hours by drive from Katmandhu). Our farm is organized into two main activities: cultivating vegetables and fruits (3 ha) and breeding 12 milking dairy cows. I decided to come back to my parent's home after my degree to start organic farming. In the beginning, they didn't believe in it. On the land where we live now, my grandparents cut the forest and cultivated it in an organic and natural way. But in my father's time, our government promoted chemical fertilizers and they started using chemicals for good production. Yet, they still didn't get a good income.Finally, I proved that without chemical fertilizers and pesticides, we can grow organic food that is healthier and more sustainable. After ten years of organic farming experience, I am starting to share my knowledge with other farmers and help local farmers move towards sustainable agriculture.Our visionThe Spiral Farm House is a company where I practice biodynamic organic and indigenous farming techniques for sustainable farming and conservation of soil, biodiversity and environment.On our farm, we focus on making good biodynamic compost which helps to protect our land and create ecological balance through farming. Biodynamic organic and indigenous farming give us good food, health, air, water, soil and social well-being. It helps us to conserve our climate through farming and carbon sequestration in the land through organic farming.This farm also teaches farmers about the transition to organic farming. We are working to share documented knowledge about biodynamic organic farming and have already conducted numerous workshops in different parts of Nepal. Our goal is to create an organic food distribution cooperative in order to access large markets and increase farmers' livelihoods.The problems we tackleCurrently, the farm is not profitable for several reasons. First of all, the milk we produce is sold at a very low price which does not allow us to compensate for the expenses related to the livestock. Furthermore, our organic fruits and vegetables are sold in the market at the same price as chemical ones due to a lack of consumer awareness. The only place where it could be valued is in the big cities which are located several hours away from the farm. We are also facing a climate crisis that involves heavy rain during late monsoon which damages vegetables and reduces production. Finally, biodynamic organic farming requires a lot of time and workforce that we cannot afford to hire at the moment. What will the funds be used for ?We are soliciting your donations to help this farm become profitable while preserving Mother Earth from the impact of chemicals and expanding this model to other farms in the region.* Objective 1 : Adding value to milk by processing it into butter and cheese (1000 €)Investing in equipment such as a cream separator and a refrigerator would help to add value to the farm's milk production by processing it into butter and cheese. This diversification of activity could increase the livelihood of the farm by selling these dairy products at competitive market prices.* Objective 2 : Investing in 10 low-cost plastic tunnel houses to extend the growing season (480 €)The acquisition of ten plastic greenhouses (600 m2 in total) would enable the production of vegetables during crucial seasons such as the monsoon and early winter. They could then be sold at a better price since the supply is lower during those periods and it would triple the volume of vegetables produced in the year.* Objective 3 : Renovating a building to create rooms and a bathroom in order to welcome volunteers (1400 €)Welcoming volunteers would represent a significant help for the fieldwork on the farm. La seule option de traitement qu'elle peut avoir est de la chimiothérapie. Cela lui offre la possibilité de prolonger sa vie de 10 a 18 mois, sans souffrance, avec un petit espoir de passer à travers les mails du filet et vivre plus longtemps. Certains me diront que je suis folle à m'engager dans des frais vétérinaires aussi élevé avec qu'un petit espoir de rémission. Mais cette chienne c'est un membre de ma famille, elle n'a que 6 ans. Je suis complètement anéanti et j'en appelle aujourd'hui à votre générosité pour m'aider à sauver ma chienne. Galates 6:6 * REALITE A MADAGASCAR, CONTEXTE COVID 19* Madagascar, est frappé de plein fouet par la pandémie COvid19, c'est un pays de quelque 25 millions d'habitants qui affiche un taux de pauvreté de 80 % - un des plus élevés au monde, la Grande Île se classant à juste titre au 4e rang des pays les plus PAUVRES au monde.* Médiocrité de l'économie basée sur une économie de subsistance où l’informel prédomine, avant et pendant la crise sanitaire Covid 19. Environs 80% de la population baignent dans une pauvreté extrême, et survivent avec moins de 2 dollars par jours par un système d'endettement perpétuel.* Le système de santé à Madagascar, bien que bien structuré, ne permet pas de contenir la progression de la maladie. Le budget de la santé est à 3% du budget de l’Etat alors que l’Union Africaine recommande 15%. Le nombre de lit en réanimation est de 5 pour 1 million d’habitant si l’Europe a 4000 lits pour 1 million d’habitant, et la sécurité sociale est quasiment inexistante à Madagascar, y compris au sein de l'Eglise FLM.* Malgré les bonnes actions menées par le pouvoir actuel à Madagascar pour protéger et lutter contre la propagation du COvid19. 2023 sera une grande année pour moi ! Depuis une quarantaine d’années, elle accompagne des grossesses et accouchements dans la réserve indienne de Guambía (Colombie).Dans cette région du Cauca, où les services de santé sont souvent géographiquement ou économiquement peu accessibles à l’ensemble de la population, le recours aux pratiques ancestrales de soins est fréquent. Les sages-femmes traditionnelles, appelées parteras, jouent un rôle prépondérant au sein de la communauté misak, où la majorité des femmes accouchent encore à domicile.Nous sollicitons votre soutien pour réaliser le rêve de Mama Cristina: créer une Maison de Naissance dans la réserve de Guambía. Cette maison sera dédiée aux suivis de grossesses et aux accouchements, mais constituera également un espace de dialogue pour les femmes, où seront organisés différents ateliers d’éducation sexuelle et de transmission des savoirs autour des plantes médicinales du territoire, entre autres. Nous souhaitons concevoir la maison en bio-construction et nous aurons presque exclusivement recours à des matériaux issus de la réserve (pins, bambous, paille, pierre, argile, tuiles et briques fabriqués à Guambía). Elle sera construite en suivant le modèle de l’architecture autochtone, à l’image du symbole de la spirale qui représente le cycle de vie misak. Chère famille, amis & entourage bienveillant,Ezra Pascal Chytka est né le 15 Juillet 2022 à 14h06 (2,780kgs et 48cm) après 36 semaines passées au chaud dans le ventre de sa maman. Malgré un accouchement sans complications, Ezra s’est arrêté de respirer au lieu de prendre sa première bouffée d’air une fois le cordon ombilical coupé. Il a été privé d’oxygène pendant 10 secondes avant que son cœur soit réanimé.Après un diagnostic confirmé d'hypertension arterielle pulmonaire du nouveau né - une maladie rare - notre petit Ezra a été pris en charge par un hôpital réputé en Floride ayant un niveau maximal de soin et sauvetage des vies des nouveau-nés.Nous sommes bénis par le fait que notre situation ait été prise à temps et avec autant de sérieux et professionnalisme ; et nous pouvons aujourd’hui dire que le plus dur est derrière nous. Après 12 jours en néonatologie, nous avons reçu notre première facture médicale pour les soins intensifs attribués à Ezra. En toute transparence, je souhaite partager avec vous une réalité qui montre l’ampleur des mesures prises pour sauver la vie de notre petit bout. La facture s’élève à $350,522 pour 12 jours. Non, ce n’est pas une erreur de frappe, vous avez bien lu. Chaque dose de morphine et pourcentage d’oxygène soufflé dans ses poumons a un prix, en passant par l’installation de toutes les machines de support jusqu’aux pansements utilisés après une prise de sang.Le chemin d’Ezra est loin d’être fini. Il a encore besoin de support en oxygène et va encore rester 2 semaines à l’hôpital. Puis s’en suivront de nombreux rendez-vous avec un cardiologue et spécialiste pulmonaire pour suivre son évolution sur les premières années de sa vie. C’est un combat que nous allons mener en tant que parents aux cotés de notre petit garçon.Si le montant total (exorbitant) fait peur, cette facture ne représente cependant pas notre responsabilité financière finale. Grace à ma mutuelle obtenue par le travail, 90% sera pris en charge. Nous sommes jeunes parents et pleinement conscients du cout de la vie aux États Unis, mais cette situation n’est pas d’ordre normal ou ordinaire et pour cela nous lançons un appel aux dons. Cette demande d’aide n’est en aucun cas une obligation et résulte de beaucoup de demandes que nous avons reçues pour un soutien financier. C'est pourquoi on s'est dit qu'on avait bien besoin de vous :)Notre projet Pour rappel, nous partons en Asie de septembre à décembre pour un projet solidaire et itinérant à vélo. En effet, étant toutes les 2 en année de césure, nous avons décidé de nous lancer dans cette folle aventure dans le but de relever 3 défis:- 1 défi sportif: Nous partons faire le tour de la Thaïlande, du Laos, du Cambodge et du Vietnam pendant 4 mois à vélo. 4000 km parcourus, des paysages incroyables, des courbatures sans fin, le cuissard qui colle aux cuisses, les cheveux gras sous le casque, mais surtout un winter body dont vous serez tous jaloux :))- 1 défi solidaire: Nous serons en relation avec l'association Enfants du Mékong, une association qui promeut l'éducation pour tous via le parrainage. Le but de notre mission sera de trouver des personnes avant notre départ qui souhaiteront parrainer des enfants. Nous récolterons auprès d'eux des photos / cadeaux / lettres que nous donnerons aux enfants de manière itinérante. A leur tour, ils pourront offrir des cadeaux que nous apporterons aux parrains. Notre rôle sera donc de créer du lien entre parrains et filleuls.Nous avons choisi de collaborer avec Enfants du Mékong car nous pensons que l'éducation devrait être accessible à tous. Les enfants parrainés ont ensuite la chance d'avoir plus de facilités à s'intégrer dans un milieu professionnel. Cette association nous permet également d'avoir une action pérenne et marquante pour les enfants comme pour les parrains. Celle-ci donne un sens au parrainage et permet aux parrains et filleuls de tisser de réels liens.- 1 défi écologique: Nous partons avec comme objectif de n'utiliser que notre vélo sur place. Grâce à cette expérience, nous souhaitons montrer que chacun peut faire un geste pour la planète au quotidien, quel qu'il soit, comme se balader à vélo par exemple !On a besoin de vous !Mais pour pouvoir partir, nous allons avoir besoin de 2 vélos, de 2 billets d'avion, de 2 équipements cyclistes, de plusieurs doses de vaccin et de quoi subvenir à nos besoins sur place.Nous savons que vous êtes beaucoup à nous suivre et c'est pour ça qu'on compte encore plus sur vous ! Alors même si vous êtes étudiant / stagiaire / alternant n'hésitez pas : mieux vaut contribuer à une cause qui vous tient à coeur plutôt que de faire le chiffre d'affaires du bar le vendredi soir ( bon, ok, on comprend que ce soit une cause qui vous tienne aussi à coeur ... ). Notamment par Fatima Mernissi, pionnière du 1er centre d'écoute au Maroc, Féministe et Sociologue engagée dans les Droits de la Femme.A l'image du Rallye des Gazelles, cette association repose sur les valeurs de solidarité entre femmes et de témérité.
