Help fund a cochlear implant surgery for 18 month old baby

Raising a funding campaign as I came across the story of Marc Alexander, 18 month baby boy born in Haiti and diagnosed bilaterally deaf (both ears). Long story short, Haiti does not have the proper medical infrastructure and the government support to help this little boy get a cochlear implant surgery that would give him the ability to hear and speak. The longer he waits to get the implant, the more irreversible speech and development delay will occur. This would cost USD 30,000 including a trip abroad to get the surgery done (I myself have done research for my daughter and no kidding, it really cost that much). I spoke to his mother who didn't know what to do and who to turn to, and I felt the need to help them. As a French national and a Hong Kong resident , and as a mother of a 6 months deaf baby myself, my family is fortunate enough to have access to the best-in-class health support, excellent medical care and infrastructure ...and this is all (or almost) FREE!! We tend to forget how lucky we are. This little boy does not share our luck. Please take some time to read his story, DONATE and SHARE THIS POST to help him get access to a cochlear implant surgery, this amazing, life changing technology that will give him back the gift of hearing and speech.Carine Story of Marc Alexandre: Hello everyone. We are Kamaïa and Darlin Jeanty, parents of 18 months old Marc-Alexandre. We live Haiti, one of the most under-developed country in the world. We suspected the deafness of our son when he was 2 months and a half, as he was not reacting to sound. Due to lack of medical resources and infrastructure in Haiti, we were unable to obtain a diagnosis right away. When Marc-Alexandre turned 12 months old, we had been recommended to have him checked out in Republic Dominican. Without a second of hesitation, we took out all of our savings and bought a flight for the 3 of us to go meet an ENT specialist there. The results were devastating: Marc-Alexandre was diagnosed bilaterally deaf (both ears). We were not sure what to do or where to turn. We do not know if he would ever say, "I love you Mommy and Daddy." We have prayed for a happy, productive life for Marc-Alexander, and we want him to go to school and someday graduate from university to pursue a career and a life that he chooses. The ENT was adamant that our son needed cochlear implants; Implanting Marc will give him access to sound which will provide him with the only chance of age-appropriate speech and language development. This will provide him the opportunity to a better education and independent employment as an adult in the future. If not implanted, it may lead to permanent changes in the auditory cortex in the brain which may make it impossible to benefit from a cochlear implant or any form of hearing restoration surgery in the future. The cochlear implant bypasses the damaged portions of the ear and directly stimulates the auditory nerve. The signals are generated by the implant and are sent passed the auditory nerve to the brain where the signals are recognised as sounds. However, the cochlear implants will cost USD$30,000 as we do not have insurance and there is no government social subsidy or help of any kind. We are raising money to pay for medical expenses including surgery, cochlear implant device, and a trip abroad for the surgery.Marc is growing up and as his parents; we know we have to do something. The only future for our son is to hear with cochlear implants. Just like everyone else, we want to give him the best possible future there is.Life is so precious and this innocent boy who deserves the right to live normally. In advance, we extend our heartfelt thanks for your incredible moral and financial support. Thank you for helping us change the life of our child. Kamaïa and Darlin Jeanty

Marco & Thijs - Bike4Kika

All, This summer (4th August) myself and my son Thijs will be biking ~1000km from Oberrieden, Switzerland to Schagen, the Netherlands. We will be following the river Rhein all the way to the Netherlands. We aim to complete the bike tour in 10 days. We are doing this to raise money for child cancer research. Reason we are doing this is that a little over a year Thijs’s grandad passed away from cancer. I also had cancer and was lucky enough to survive, as such we want to do what we can to help other people that have cancer. Every little bit helps. All the money donated will go 100% to KIKA, which has been set up in 2002 to fund innovative research for Child Cancer. Treatments have significantly improved but still 1 in 4 children, diagnosed with cancer dies. The charity’s aim is to increase the survival rate of children suffering from cancer from 75% to 95% by 2025. They aim to do this by funding scientific research, improving treatments (less pain, higher cure rate and improved quality of life), concentrating expertise and treatment for children to accelerate experience. We hope you want to support with us this cause as no one especially not a child, should have to die from cancer. Thank you!Thijs & Marco

Support for Aelfin Michel

Aelfin Michel - Critical Condition - Hua Hin, ThailandSadly, on December 31st, Aelfin tragically crashed on a motorbike causing him to suffer severe head and face trauma. Aelfin is currently in ICU under 24 hours medical care and constant support. When Aelfin arrived in emergency he required immediate surgery to remove bleeding on the brain and had part of his skull removed, which will need to be replaced with titanium. His jaw and teeth were severely smashed which will require surgery, as well as other serious facial and head injuries. Unfortunately this is a very critical situation. Due to the severity of his head injuries he has had many operations to date and requires many more, plus 24 hours support and months (if not years) of therapy. The latter is not yet known as we are currently taking it day by day, knowing that each day is a miracle. Aelfin is a fighter and at every set back he is fighting to stay here with us. For those that know him will know his determination and stubbornness. This trait is shining through in his fight for his life. This gives us hope. Holding onto this hope and knowing that Aelfin will keep on fighting, there is a long and very expensive battle ahead of us. He requires many more surgeries, and unfortunately at this stage, we are unsure of the extent of damage and rehabilitation required. We urgently ask all of you to help support Aelfin and his mother, Emma, with the extensive ongoing medical costs and medical care that Aelfin needs now and for the coming months. ALL of the funds donated will be used to cover Aelfin's hospital bills, medical and rehabiliation expenses. We would like to express our gratitude for your kind donations to the SUPPORT AELFIN FUND. Best regards,Aelfin's support team

NHS Support Fund: One Million Masks Project

NHS Support Fund: One Million Masks Project

A CALL TO ACTION, CAN YOU HELP ? Dr Mathews / Kieran Phillips / Jonathan Penna Over 31,000 doctors have signed a petition calling for more to be done to provide adequate PPE for NHS staff. It is vitally important that NHS workers, Doctors and Nurses are able to treat patient with adequate protective masks. Thousands of NHS workers do not have adequate masks, goggles, gowns and gloves as we tackle this escalating crisis. A lack of PPE is putting workers in danger. At least three NHS doctors have died after contracting coronavirus. https://www.mirror.co.uk/news/politics/10000-nhs-staff-demand-proper-21785143 https://www.express.co.uk/news/uk/1262655/NHS-coronavirus-PPE-latest-nhs-doctors-ppe-safety-covid-19-pandemic-boris-johnson https://www.thetimes.co.uk/edition/news/nhs-staff-beg-boris-johnson-give-us-the-right-protective-coronavirus-gear-cs77576v6 Due to strong professional relationships, we can secure an abundant supply of FFP2 Masks, surgical masks from certified equipment manufacturers to be shipped in the UK. 100% of donations will go directly into the acquisition and delivery of the FFP2 masks, surgical masks and Personal Protective Equipment for frontline healthcare workers in the UK's busiest Emergency Rooms and Intensive Care Units. Our Goal Our goal is to acquire, distribute, and deliver a million masks to hospitals with the help of your donations! If we surpass our goal, we will keep purchasing additional FFP2 & ventilators for frontline healthcare workers until every last penny is spent. Our Commitment Once the masks are delivered, we will mark our mask drop-offs on this page, so you can stay updated on where the donations are going. We will be posting stories and photos of our contributions, hand-offs, and the doctors you are helping on our Instagram (@one_million_masks). FAQ How will the funds be used? 100% of the funds will go directly to facilitating the purchase and delivery of masks and other urgent Personal Protective Equipment for frontline healthcare workers in the UK's largest hospitals. Our team is donating their time and have foregone compensation for their work. No one on the leadership team for One Million Masks is benefiting financially in any way from this campaign. We are committed to ensuring that our suppliers are giving us the most competitive rates available for CE-licensed, medical-grade masks so that we can make sure that each penny we raise is maximized for efficacy. If we raise enough money and have enough access to supplies, we hope to expand our donations to other hospitals in need. What have you accomplished so far? We have contact within the PPE supply chain for CE-licensed medical masks from reputable manufacturers: (e.g. 3M, Medline, Beijing Cap High Technology). We have direct relationships with Hospitals and NHS Trusts in UK and are in touch with many Clinical Practitioners and Physicians and have assessed their needs. What is your current most pressing need? We can acquire 1,000,000 FFP2 masks ready to be shipped but require funds to secure the order. The inventory is disappearing every day as every infected country in the world is competing for supplies. We can access this inventory due to our strong network. The more funding we secure as soon as possible means, the more masks we can get for frontline healthcare workers. Why aren’t the hospitals & government ordering these masks directly? Hospitals, as well as government agencies, are trying their best to procure masks. However, due to supply chain limitations and global competition, they are currently experiencing extreme shortages. We are fortunate to have close relationships with many of the factories producing masks as all our team working in the field. How is this one different? Your donation will go directly to support the acquisition of masks & other urgent FFP2 for Uk healthcare staff at the frontlines of COVID-19. Because of the global shortage of masks & PPE, your funds will be able to get equipment that is in great need and out of reach for hospitals currently. Unlike other charities, ours is related directly to the supply of masks & PPE, because we believe that protecting our frontline healthcare workers is the most important thing to do right now. How are you procuring the masks? Through our volunteer network, we are fortunate to have close relationships with some of the largest surgical mask suppliers in the world. The manufacturers are certified with the European Union to supply medical equipment. We have verified and have copies of their certification. How are you distributing the masks? Through our volunteer network, we will be personally hand-delivering the masks to frontline medical workers at their hospitals, so that they get into the right hands. Are donations tax deductible? Currently, donations are not tax-deductible. If you know of a charity in this space that would like to sponsor our effort, we would love to partner with them. Until then, we have realized that the need is so urgent that we must move forward and hope that you will donate. I am an ER/ICU healthcare professional at a London hospital that is currently treating COVID-19 patients. We are short of masks. How do we request masks? Please send us an email through the LinkedIn of someone from the team. Aside from donations, how can we help? You can share this campaign and give a hand for the delivery. The Team Dr Mathews I am a Doctor with a background in adult medicine. One of the things that many of my friends and colleagues on the frontline are worrying about is having adequate and safe supplies of PPE to use at work. This is vital to keep healthcare workers safe and healthy whilst we work. I know lots of people are keen to try and help the NHS in any way that they can. So when Kieran asked if I would like to help with this project I agreed as I hope it will provide another way for people to help our NHS. I know Kieran and Jonathan are planning to use their known contacts to help procure more supplies for our hospitals. Jonathan Penna I have been working in finance in New York, Singapour & finally Hong Kong. I have been back in the UK for seven months. I'm now working as a consultant at Projectus Consulting with a specialisation in market access within medical. I hold an MSC in finance from HEC Paris and a BBA from EDHEC business school. I personally lost someone from my family infected by the Covid-19, I'm indeed deeply motivated to help the NHS during this crisis. I truly hope that you endeavour to support our health workers during this pandemic. https://www.linkedin.com/in/jonathan-penna-4842a6168/ Kieran Phillips I am a Graduate in Law and Science, a Consultant at Projectus, specialised in Regulatory Affairs and Engineering.

Giving hope to Nick

Giving hope to Nick

Bleiben Sie gesund!............................................................................Very welcome - thanks for being hereI would like to tell you the story of a little boy from Germany who wished for something:Even as a small boy, he was not yet 10 years old, Nick, a happy and naive child, wanted to have a big family. He once wanted to marry a woman and have many children with her. He also dreamed of having a cook and servants and everything without working, he was still a little boy.Today, the little boy is a young man (34 years) and some wishes have been fulfilled. He has "servants" and his physical well-being is also taken care of. He doesn't have to work himself. He might be very satisfied, but he is not and sees no meaning in his life.If you are wondering why, please read on. Let me tell you:At the age of 14, he fell ill with an aggressive form of multiple sclerosis, which quickly led to physical limitations. After finishing school, it was not possible for him to take up a profession, because the disease was always one step ahead of him. Since 2020, he has been in early retirement due to illness, as he could not even pursue his part-time employment in a workshop for the disabled. His "servants" support him in everyday life, because he now needs help with almost everything, such as going to bed, getting up, dressing and undressing, washing and showering. He is dependent on help around the clock and also gets his meals prepared, crushed and on bad days also served. So wishes can also come true.As Nick's mother, who had to watch him lose his cheerfulness and zest for life, I now wish something in his place, in the hope that my wishes will have a positive effect on his life.I wish for Nick,- that he can set up the kitchen an any things he still needs in the handicapped accessible apartment, which has finally been found, to his taste.- that he may consult doctors in Hamburg with regard to further treatment options in order to clarify possible treatments that are not covered by the health insurance.- that he can fulfil a wish to travel to a nature reserve in Scotland.- that he receives support in the realization of his designs of practical chic clothing for wheelchair users with special requirements. My greatest wish for him - besides those that the illness comes to a halt and he enjoys life - is also his greatest wish: a wife by his side and children. Please help to make one or the other wish come true.Donate hope with your financial contribution or by sharing this information.Thank you very much for taking the time to read this story.Stay healthy!

Bisous,Johann et Ashley--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Hello everyone,Our little cat willow is currently being hospitalized at the veterinarian because she is having pretty serious digestive problems since last week. In fact, since last Thursday, Willow is vomiting frequently, barely eating, and not using the litter box at all. We have already had four visits to the vets office during which “Princess baby-gal” (as we like to call her) has received several injections(anti-nausea, anti-fever and antibiotics), blood taken and 4 X-rays which have unfortunately not given us many answers. According to the veterinarian, the cause could be due to a foreign object she ingested, but the major problem is that the little one can’t eliminate it from her body. Her condition is fairly stable for the time being despite the constant vomiting and little meows of pain, but there is a strong risk that she will deteriorate as long as she does not relieve herself or something is done medically. Willow will therefore be operated on tomorrow morning to evacuate whatever is in her intestines and colon as well as to see the current state of irritation of those areas.Even though Johann and myself are extremely embarrassed to have to come to this, we don’t have the choice but to ask for your help to finance little Willows care. We only have little income (Johann is a student and I’m currently looking for work), and the care that has already been given to Willow and with the surgery to come, is putting us in a financial hold that we don’t know how to climb out of. Every help is most welcome, whichever the amount. If you can afford it, of course. We will be immensely grateful.Thank you for taking the time to read this.Sincerely,Ashley and Johann
